PLACE IN THE ORGANISATION
The LOSA Observer reports respectively to the Head of Narrow of Wide Body
RESPONSIBILITY OF THE FUNCTION
LOSA stands for Line Operations Safety Audit and is an integral part of our Safety Management System. LOSA audits are conducted at regular intervals at our company and will be organized for the first time at cluster BENE-level. Results are also integrated at TUI Group level to look at the Group-wide performance and align best practices amongst all airlines.
A LOSA observer collects data about flight crew Threat and Error Management performance, hereby identifying strengths and weaknesses. This will in turn allow a pro-active identification of potential hazards and will allow us to introduce risk-mitigating actions where necessary.
The audits are conducted under strict no-jeopardy conditions; therefore, flight crews are not held accountable for their actions and errors that are observed. During flights that are being audited, a LOSA observer records and codes potential threats to safety; how the threats are addressed; the errors such threats generate; how flight crews manage these errors; and specific behaviors that have been known to be associated with accidents and incidents.
